Tiger Lillies are "Natives" here in New Jersey. Last year I thought I had gotten them all out of my gardens...obviously I was very wrong! The worst offender or would it be the biggest idiot for that second picture: you see I THOUGHT I took that sucker out, cause there was a gorgeous big dark red daylilly right next to it that it was crowding. Imagine my horror as those stems got taller and taller, it could only mean one thing. Was I having an extravagant time with cocktails while gardening that day when I moved "that plant"????? Just an FYI, I don't EVER throw away any flowers, I put them in the hedgerow, otherwise known as "on your own" spots.. Guess I'm just going to have to wait and see where the red one turns up!!!! I get so ticked off every time I look at that thing. The other ones are just a matter of "I didn't get all the roots", so I'll dig them up again. But a tiger lilly showing up instead of my beloved big red.......if you could see me now I am snarling and gritting my teeth.......
The rambling on of a complicatingly simple gardener who has more ideas, projects to do, stuff to learn, then her body can keep up with. But I am damn well going to try. DAMNIT!

When the Natives Refuse to Leave

Ooooo...I've had that same battle! Last year I thought I finally got them all out, but this year guess who has returned to my garden!
There are lilies and then there are Lilies. I had the same problem at our previous home. At one time I thought the native lilies were cool and moved some from my dad's garden, despite his warning that they were weeds. Here at the new garden, I have only hybrids, thankfully. I feel your pain. Most gardeners do the same thing.
Frustrating, for sure. There's always Round Up. :)
LOL! Damn stubborn natives!
I like your tiger lilies!!! You gotta admire a plant that is beautiful and determined to live! Good luck getting rid of them. Maybe if you put in enough hybrids, they'll squeeze out the tigers. But considering this plant is named after a tiger, it might not give up so easily!
Even though the tiger lillies are all over the sides of the roads here, I still could never kill them, I just keep moving them to the sides of the property so they would look like they were grown there all along. But damn they are stubborn to get out all their little roots!
Oh I'm in the same place. I thought I got them all last year!
P.S. I love your hypertufa planters and your blog. I hope you sold some!
I guess I've never had to deal with such problems. I think they are very pretty! :)
Glad you don't kill them, love your "on your own" spots!
